For all Vespa models, the gear shift cross represents a particularly stressed component and is fundamental for the correct functioning of the gearbox. Precisely for these particular needs, Polini designers have created a series of crosses for the most popular Vespa Small Frame and PX models, made with very high quality steel which allows for very high consistency and hardness/resilience characteristics. The clutch teeth must be very hard on the surface to resist sliding wear, but at the same time have high resilience to withstand the impacts to which a transmission is subjected. The complex geometry of the Small Frame models requires careful machining to have low roughness on the gear engagement cam. The mechanical characteristics clearly superior to the original make them indispensable on elaborate engines.
